The Republicans are indeed in the wrong here.

It was a simple misstatement - calling for the children to apply themselves as they could to "help your president", which after all, is essentially the same deal as "ask what you can do for your country".

Obama tried to pull a JFK, worded it slightly wrong (simple mistake, I might not agree with his politics but ffs give him a pass here), and the Republicans, seeing the opportunity, jumped on it.

Partisan politics, nothing particularly new or interesting really.

Edit: Ok, I'll add something more descriptive so you won't PM me. This is not a politics forum. While it is indeed the Off Topic section of this particular board, any thread that has anything to do with politics/religion/war/swine flu/education/whatever eventually turns into a hate-filled rant that goes back and forth without accomplishing anything. I'm stopping it before it starts.

Everyone has their own opinion - good for you. If you'd like to state your opinion on this topic or any of the others I've mentioned above, please find a more appropriate forum to express them.
